What are some Bible verses about loving yourself?

The Word of God is His love story to us, His children. God loves us unconditionally, but so many of us struggle with showing that same love to ourselves.

The Word of God is living and it is truth. By speaking Bible verses out loud to ourselves, we are given the strongest tool to defeat the lies that fill our thoughts.

What Does God Say About Loving Yourself?

The Second Commandment that God gives us is to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. What does that even mean to love others as we love ourselves? It means that if we do not love ourselves correctly we will never love others to the fullest extent.

If we do not pour into ourselves we have nothing to pour into others. There is a reason that flight attendants tell you to put an oxygen mask on yourself before helping others. You can only help the other person if you are still alive. Just like you can only love other people with the fullness of love if you love yourself.

Here are 10 Bible verses to read about loving yourself. These Bible verses are to remind you how truly incredible you are and that your life is worth living. As you read each Bible verse, let it permeate your mind.

Keep a copy in your phone, hang them on your mirror, put them in your car or anywhere that you need them to remind you of your greatness. I share a story here about how God transformed my life using His Word.

Bible Verses About Loving Yourself

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Romans 12:2 (NKJV)

God tells us that we need to renew our mind every single day. We have to remind ourselves what the Word of God says about us and not what the world says about us.

When we renew our mind with God’s word we are reminded of all the incredible things that make up who we are as a person. It helps us to show love to ourself by thinking only positive things about ourselves.

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)

God created us on purpose; each one of us unique. We must stop and remind ourselves that God we are God’s masterpiece. He took His time creating each of us as individuals. He put everything in you that you need for the purpose He has called you to.

Love yourself the way you are and embrace your differences. Stop comparing yourself to others and wanting what they have. When you compare yourself to others, it starts to steal your joy about who you are. Take the time to stop and marvel at the masterpiece that you are.

“I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.” Psalm 139:14 (NKJV)

God was intentional when He thought us up and wanted us to be born. Everything God makes is marvelous, and that includes you. Take a minute to bask in how much God loves you and how wonderfully He made you. Show yourself some love and thank God for the way He designed you.

“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” 1 Peter 2:9 (NKJV)

You are a part of God’s family. This isn’t just any ordinary family; this is a royal family. He is King of kings and Lord of lords. We are the kings and lords that He is King and Lord over.

Being a king means you have been given rulership, and being a lord means that you are a master over something else. Remind yourself that you are royalty and allow your life to be a reflection of that.

“You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.” John 15:16 (NKJV)

God chose you and me to be a part of His family. You are wanted by Him and loved by Him. God calls you special and you need to remind yourself daily that you are special.

Our relationship with God means displaying the fruits of the Spirit. How does our fruit determine the level of relationship with God?

“Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies.” Proverbs 31:10 (NKJV)

You are priceless and I pray that you can see how valuable you are. God created only one of you. Any woman who understands the value of precious things know that the less of something there is, the higher value that thing is. Since there is only one of you, you are invaluable.

“Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.” Colossians 3:14 (NLT)

Love is the most beautiful thing you can wear. This includes your love for God, your love for yourself, and your love for others. You can create harmony in your mind when you love yourself and love others.

“God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved; God shall help her, just at the break of dawn.” Psalm 46:5 (NKJV)

Regardless of what is happening around us, God’s love for us gives us steady ground to rest in. We don’t have to be moved by the lies that surround us. God’s Word gives us the help we need to love ourselves.

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7 (NLT)

If the words in our thoughts are not words of love they are not from God. His words are the only words we should be thinking speaking. Replacing the negatives thoughts with His words is a way to love yourself.

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13 (NKJV)

Put your trust in God and not in yourself. It’s easier to love yourself when you see yourself through God’s lens and not your own. Your strength comes when you start seeing yourself correctly; as the beautiful woman that God created. Learn some other ways to love yourself here.
