Why is trusting the process important and how will it give you success in the things you desire? First, we need to define what a process is. A process is “a series of actions that you take in order to achieve a result”.

There are many things in life that we desire, but as you walk through life you may notice that some areas may seem out of reach or impossible to achieve. You may feel let down, stuck, hopeless, or ready to give up.

I want to encourage you to keep moving toward the thing you desire and learn that trusting the process that God has for you will bring you to the results you desire. Oftentimes we don’t have the thing we desire yet because we aren’t capable of managing it properly yet.

An example is desiring wealth. If we are not able to manage $100, how can God trust us to manage $1,000,000? It’s not about the amount of what we have, but the mindset of how we manage what we have.

Why Go Through a Process?

What happens when you encounter a door that is locked, but you know it is a door you are supposed to go through? To get through the door you need the correct key to unlock the door. If you try to open the door by kicking through it or busting through it you end up with a broken door.

This is how it is when God is taking you through a process. God will show us a vision (the door), but we cannot tangibly touch whatever that thing is (marriage, wealth, career, children, etc.).

We may be crying out to God asking where that thing is, not knowing that everything happens in God’s perfect timing (Ecclesiastes 3).

When we try to make things happen in our timing instead of God’s timing, we may cause ourselves or others more damage (like breaking down the door) instead of waiting for His timing (having the right key to unlock the door).

What I have learned in my life is that God’s timing is perfect, and my thoughts about when things should happen are not what is best for me. I realized that healing, restoration, and breakthrough take time because there are checkpoints that need to happen along the way. When we try to rush things we may end up with something that is not God’s desire for us.

I had desired marriage all of my life and I honestly thought I would meet my husband when I was in college and we would get married after that. The reality is that I was single throughout college, and only got asked out on dates about once a year.

I didn’t start dating the man that I ended up marrying until I was 35 years old! I struggled with being single for so many years until I realized God was taking me through a process to prepare me for the husband I desired, and not a fool like the different men I went on dates with.

During this process, I realized that the man I desired and the woman I was at the time wouldn’t be looking at each other. One time in prayer after crying and pleading with God about where my husband was, He asked me if the man I desired would choose me. The words stung at first, but I realized the truth of what He was saying.

At that time I was hurt, and broken had very low self-esteem, and had no confidence in myself in any area of my life. It was at that moment I asked God to take me through the process of healing and restoration. I knew I wanted better for my life and I couldn’t do it with my strength.

Trusting the Process

God took me through a season of learning to trust Him and trust the woman that He created me to be. I started discovering new things about who I was, embraced parts of me that I used to hate, and worked through a lot of areas of pain.

The scripture that God had given me during that season of trusting the process I was going through was Job 23:10, “But He knows the way that I take [and He pays attention to it]. When He has tried me, I will come forth as [refined] gold [pure and luminous].”

This was not a transformation that happened overnight. It took me over 3 years to get to a healthier mindset and 6 years later I am still learning and growing.

Even when it looked dark, bleak, and hopeless at times I continued pushing forward. There were tears, there were obstacles, and there were moments of doubt, but I kept on pushing.

One thing that helped me with trusting the process was surrounding myself with a few close friends who loved God and loved me. They kept me encouraged, prayed for me, and would continue to remind me of what the word of God says.

When I stumbled they were there to support me but made sure I didn’t give up. This is why it’s so important to be intentional about who you surround yourself with.

God loves you and His word reminds us that, “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails.” (Proverbs 19:21). Oftentimes we are so off track from God’s plans for us that it takes a lot of adjustments to get us back on His track. We also know that God works everything out for our God.

In Genesis 37-50 we learn about a young man named Joseph who was sold into slavery by his brothers and then ended up in prison for many years after a false accusation by Potiphar’s wife. God never left him during that entire time of being locked up.

The story continues with Joseph hearing from God about a famine coming and he gives a strategy to Potiphar to prepare for 7 years of famine by saving grains during the 7 years of prosperity.

In Genesis 50:19-20 “Joseph said to them, “Do not be afraid, for am I in the place of God? But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.”

Regardless of what you have been through, regardless of what you are going through, God is still with you and He is working out everything for your good.

You just have to trust Him and you have to trust the decisions He tells you to make. You are given free will, but trusting the process of what God tells us to do tells God we trust Him but also gets us on the right path.

Trust that God will get you to the place you desire if you put your own decisions aside and let God guide you down the path that He knows is best for you. Trust God, and trust that His timing is perfect.

You are worth it and you will come out as pure gold!
