There are so many self love books out there to read that you may be overwhelmed with the selection. Throughout my journey to self love, I have read a ton of books to gain more knowledge. Some books were very useful and some were not helpful at all.
I have put together a list of my 10 favorite books that helped me during my journey of self love. All of these books were helpful to me in some way or another. These books are not in any particular order according to helpfulness or favoritism except for number one.
While I personally enjoy reading physical books that I can hold in my hand, I know that many people (including my husband) enjoy reading them digitally. Here is a Kindle reader that has a ton of great features if you need to invest in one.
I have also added links for each book so you can order your copy today.
Self Love Books
1. THE BIBLE
This book is number one for obvious reasons. There is scripture throughout the Bible that teaches us about who God says we are. This is the foundation for all of the other books on this list. If you were to choose only one self love book to read you must have the Bible.
If you need to purchase a Bible don’t get overwhelmed by all of the translations available. Read through a few options and find the one that works best for YOU.
Some of my favorite translations are Amplified, English Standard Version (ESV), New Living Translation (NLT), and the Message. My main personal Bible is an NKJV because that is the one that I was given first and mine has so many notes in it.
2. EXHALE – DR. MARTIN WILLIAMS
This book holds a very special place in my heart because it was one of the first books I read when I was born again. It was written by my very own pastor and was the book that helped to resuscitate my life.
I would often purchase and gift this book to family and friends, praying they would get the same breakthrough I did. This book helped me discover that there is a purpose for my life and that I am important to God.
Reading this book started my journey of discovering and becoming myself; becoming the woman that God created me to be. It taught me that I was created for significance and to be a blessing to the world.
3. PURPOSE DRIVE LIFE – RICK WARREN
This is another book that is very special to me because it was also one of the first books I read when I was born again. I had been attending a new church for a couple of years, but I was still very new in my relationship with God.
I left my religion a few years prior and did not have much foundation for who God was or who I was. A friend of mine encouraged me to buy this book and we agreed to read one chapter each day and share what we got out of it.
This book walks you through the journey of discovering “What on Earth am I here for?”.
4. UNDERSTANDING THE PURPOSE & POWER OF WOMEN – DR. MYLES MUNROE
If you have not read anything by Dr. Myles Munroe yet then you are completely missing out on some divine wisdom. This book was written for men and women to understand the biblical perspective of a woman.
God created everything for a purpose and this book breaks down the purpose of women. It has nothing to do with traditional gender roles that teach that the woman is only responsible for keeping the home.
This book helped me to understand what it means to be created in the image and likeness of God. It helped me to understand how powerful and unique I was as a woman.
5. THE PRINCIPLES & POWER OF VISION – DR. MYLES MUNROE
You can probably see that I am a fan of Dr. Myles Munroe. I have read many of his books and had the honor of meeting him a couple of times at our church’s annual conference before his untimely passing.
This book helped me through the process of writing the vision for my life. It teaches the importance of having a vision for your life as well as taking you through the steps of how to write your vision.
I enjoyed this book because it helped me to see the significance of my life and gave me the tools to move forward. It helped me see the potential inside of myself and how to create an action plan to move.
6. FERVENT – PRISCILLA SHIRER
This book was extremely informative on the different ways that the enemy tries to attack our lives. I loved how each chapter started with an explanation of the strategy that the enemy uses to attack specific areas in our life.
Each explanation felt like it was written specifically for me and that I was being heard. The author then teaches us strategies for how to deal with those attacks. Each chapter concludes with a prayer and scripture.
I enjoyed reading this book because it helped me to realize that I was not alone in these attacks and gave me the tools for fighting back.
7. THE GIFT IN YOU – DR. CAROLINE LEAF
This book appealed to the nerd inside of me because it combined God’s principles with science. It taught me that my gifts are unique to me and that physiologically I could never be like someone else.
God wired me a specific way for a specific purpose. It helped me to start embracing who I was as an individual and stop comparing myself to others. Putting this list together made me pull this book off the shelf to read it again.
8. BECOMING THE WOMAN GOD WANTS ME TO BE – DONNA PARTOW
This book is a 90-day guide to Living a Proverbs 31 life. It breaks down the well-known scripture of Proverbs 31:10-30 into weekly and daily sections.
There is a guided prayer, a breakdown of the scripture and how it applies to our own lives, then there are questions and practical applications. I enjoyed going through this book because it broke down the scripture for me but it was also in a workbook format which is my favorite type of book to walk through.
It takes you through questions that force you to take a look at your own life. It also helps to see who you are as a unique individual.
9. GET OUT OF YOUR HEAD – JENNIE ALLEN
I feel like this book was written specifically for me. The subtitle for this book is, “Stopping the spiral of toxic thoughts.” This book talks about how the greatest spiritual battle we have to deal with is the one that takes place between our ears.
The author teaches us how to practically renew our minds and that we have the power to choose how we respond to what is happening around us. I enjoyed reading this book because it felt very personal but also gives us the simplest answer for how to respond, “I have a choice.”
10. BREAKING FREE – BETH MOORE
This is a book that takes us on a journey to freedom from the things that have us bound. One key thing she reminds us throughout the book is that freedom requires work.
You can’t just read something and be free, you have to put in the work. In this book, you will learn how to study scripture and how that scripture can be applied in your own life. You will learn some of the obstacles to freedom and then strategies on how to break free.
My hope in putting together this list is to give you some options of self love books that you can start reading. You do not have to read every book on the list oh, this is just to help get you started.
Have you read any of the books listed here? What are some of your favorite self love books?
